Obituary: Nannie Eliza (Burnley) Thomas, 2002 Source: The Daily Progress, Oct 24, 2002 Contruibutor: Dennis Truslow ------------------------------------------------------------------- Nannie Eliza (Burnley) Thomas, 73, of Esmont, a sweet soul has gone home and will be missed. She was a loving mother, a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. She died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at a local hospital. Born Dec. 1, 1928, in Shipman, (Nelson County), she was the daughter of the late George Washington Burnley and Martha Jane Poe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Early Thomas. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Thomas, James Carlton Thomas, Joan Tyree, Linda Lloyd, Tony Thomas, Rose Mary Faircloth, Ricky Thomas, and Michael Thomas; a brother, Franklin Burnley; two sisters, Virginia Marshall and Mary Mayo; 23 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at Hill & Wood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Alberene Church Cemetery, with Minister Jeff Cale officiating.
