Obituary: Mattie May Goff Thompson, 1988 Source: The Daily Progress Contributor: Jim McRay ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mattie May Goff Thompson (September 21, 1914 -November 29, 1988) Mattie May Thompson, 74, of Route 1, Faber, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 29, 1988 at her residence. Born Sept. 21, 1914 in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late Dabney Goff and Julia Phillips Goff. She was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses Kingdom Hall of Lovingston. Survivors include her husband, Robert Kemper Thompson; two daughters, Ruby M. Sandridge and Edith T. Fielding, both of Charlottesville; five sons, Wesley K. Thompson and James C. Thompson, both of Charlottesville, Arthur L. Thompson and Sidney O. Thompson, both of Lovingston, and Robert E. Thompson of Free Union; two sisters, Bertha Weeks of Charlottesville and Amanda Phillips of Richmond; five brothers, Gilbert Goff of Esmont, Dillard Goff of Lovingston, Howard Goff of Charlottesville, Melvin and Calvin Goff, both of Faber; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Moyer and Margaret Pace. A funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Wells-Sheffield Chapel, Lovingston, with Elder Michael Bowles and the Rev. W. Gene Davis officiating.
