Obituary: Robert Graham Topp, 2002 Source: The News and Advance, Oct 8, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow --------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Graham Topp, 78, of Roseland (Nelson County) died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, from complications of congestive heart failure. Born in Greenwood, Miss., Mr. Topp graduated from the University of Mississippi and earned a Master's in Education at the Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. He also studied religion at the Episcopal School of Divinity at Sewanee and earned an Associate degree in Agriculture at North Carolina State University. A retired major in the Army Reserves, Mr. Topp began his military career with his undergraduate studies at the Naval Academy. He then served in the Army Occupation of Germany in 1945, where he met his wife, Rosemarie. He later taught ROTC at Wake Forest University and volunteered with the Special Forces for two tours in Thailand and Vietnam. He received three Purple Hearts for being wounded in action. After returning to civilian life, Mr. Topp worked for many years as a high school teacher and guidance counselor. He retired completely when he moved to Roseland with his wife in 1985. Mr. Topp was an accomplished horseman, winning numerous endurance rides with his beloved Arabian stallion, Silver Shane. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, three children and six grandchildren.
