NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Ora Louise Floyd Tomlin, 8 Jun 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Source: The Daily Progress, Friday, June 11, 2004 Ora Louise Floyd Tomlin, 87, died peacefully at her home on June 8, 2004. She was born on April 1, 1917, in Nelson County, to the late Stephen L. and Clara Parry Floyd. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Roy Benjamin (Ben) Tomlin; two daughters, Doris L. Tomlin and Mariska T. Spires; three sisters, Alma Carter Brady, Clara J. Smith and Edith F. Marshall; and three brothers, Paul E. Floyd, S. Dewey Floyd and Harry L. Floyd. She was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church in Afton, and was employed by the Daily Progress Circulation Department until her retirement in 1984. She was proud of the fact that she had lived longer than anyone else in her entire family. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred T. Birckhead of Charlottesville, and her two sons, Mike Birckhead and Bill Birckhead; three sons, Fred S. Tomlin and his wife, Kay, of Charlottesville, and their family, Sam Tomlin and Kathy T. Hughes, George D. Tomlin and his wife, Sandy, of Waynesboro, and his son G.D. (Dan) Tomlin, and Roy R. Tomlin and his wife, Linda, of Ruckersville, and by Andy Spires and Cindy S. Chaput. She is also survived by her younger sister and brother, Ruth F. Bryant of Waynesboro and Herbert P. (Buck) Floyd of Glen Burnie, Md.; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer Spires, Jessie Birckhead, Ben Tomlin, Savanna Hughes, Logan Hughes, Evan Chaput and Jared Chaput; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 11, 2004 at Hebron Baptist Church with the Rev. John Chafee and the Rev. Whitney Critzer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont 2200 Old Ivy Road Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
