NELSON COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Jessie J. Viar, 26 Apr 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Source: The Daily Progress, Wednesday, April 28, 2004 Jessie J. Viar, 72, of Crozet, died at his residence on Monday, April 26, 2004, after a short illness. Born Nov. 11, 1934, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late William Viar and Josephine Camden. He was preceded in death by a very special uncle, Emmitt Campbell; one son, Donnie Viar; one daughter, Deborah Burgess; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruby (Jackie) Parr Viar; a very special aunt, Gertrude Campbell, both of Afton, (Nelson County); three sons, Ronnie Viar and his wife, Linda, Jimmy Viar and Billy Viar, all of Crozet; three daughters, Linda Fitzgerald and her husband, John, of Lyndhurst, Shelby Shifflett and her friend, Junior Rosson, and Barbara Sandridge and her husband, Keith, of Crozet; a special daughter-in-law, Betsy Viar of Afton. He is also survived by one brother, Roy Viar of Waynesboro; two sisters, Nancy Mays of Nelson County and Shirley Herring of Greene County. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Family and his truck were the two things Jesse loved the most. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. Jesse enjoyed trucking whether he was working on one or driving across country, it did not matter. He was a hard worker and an excellent driver and received many safety awards furthering his driving career. The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Piedmont for all their help and support, also Dr. Gordon Morris and the nurses on the third floor at Martha Jefferson Hospital for all their kindness, sensitivity and the loving way they cared for him during his illness. He retired from Con-Agra after 23 years and had been a truck driver for Van Wyk, Sheldon, Iowa, for 10 years. He belonged to the Waynesboro Teamsters Union and the Waynesboro Moose. He served in the Army in the Korean War. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Hebron Baptist Church in Afton, Va., with the Rev. Ronald Nichols officiating. Family suggest that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Rd., Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
