Wade, 77, of 215 Wades Lane, Nellysford, Va., and wife of O.J. Wade Sr., died 5:50 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at her residence. She was born May 14, 1926 at Wintergreen, Va., a daughter of the late Moses B. Hughes and Lottie "Phillips" Hughes. Mrs. Wade was very active and involved in her community. She became very active in local and statewide politics. She supported the local little league sports clubs and was well known as a strong supporter of all the civic clubs and organizations in her area. She helped with the American Heart Association fund raising. She did volunteer service and was a strong supporter of the Nelson County Tourist Center. She was a member of the Nelson County Chamber of Commerce. She was the proprietor of Rodes Farm Inn at Nellysford and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church at Afton. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Junior and Donald Hughes. Survivors include her husband and children, O.J. Wade Jr., and his wife, Betty, of Nellysford, Va., Clyde Wade and his wife, Robby Lynn, of Rembert, S.C., Bliss Wade of Nellysford, Va., Mildred Wade and fiancée, Rudy Dozal, of Nellysford, Va., Charlie Wade and his wife, Cindy, of Stuarts Draft, Va., five grandchildren; Clayton Wade, Kevin Wade, Jeff Wade, Christina Wade, Amanda Clark; great grand- children, Kullen Wade, Jillian Wade, Madison Wade, Jeffrey Wade, Steven Andes; three brothers, Jack Hughes, of Crimora, Doug Hughes, of West Point, Va., James Hughes, of SouthHill, Va.; four sisters, Daisy Henderson, of Waynesboro, Dell Smith, of Nashville, Tenn., Isabelle Barkley, of Purlear, N.C., Lois McGann, of Greenfield, Va.; a large number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and special K-9 friends Spot and Bear-Bear. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the chapel of McDow Funeral Home by the Rev. John Chafee and the Rev. Charles C. Ramsey. Burial will follow in Rodes United Methodist Church Cemetery, Afton, Va. Active pallbearers will be Al Goldson, Roger Curtis, Charlie Fishburne, Randy Messer, David Wells, Jimmy Wade, Jimmy Allen and Tommy Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Hughes, David Hughes, Bobby Henderson, William Duncan, Judy Campbell, Marsha Taylor, Catherine Gordon, Stan Johnson, Neal Kirby, Kay Flowers, Paul Grove, Francis Toliver, Francine Johnson, Lisa Spearman, Steven Andes, David Wingfield, Lisa Hughes, Gordon Hughes, Dawn Zimmerman, Ralph Turpin, Brian Davis , Forest Bryant, Tim Wallaker and Donnie Fisher, Bo Dodd, Angela Hughes, Steve Britt, Ricky Lowrie, Don Lansing, Congressman L.F. Payne, Earl Hamner, Governor George Allen, Senator John Warner and Dr. Jerry Falwell. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday prior to the service at McDow Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cardwell Center the Oncology Unit at Martha Jefferson Hospital, 459 Locust Ave. Charlottesville, Va. 22902. The family would be honored in having Moms friends attend the celebration of her life.
