Obituary: Mary Proffit Walker, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, January 9, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, aquaair@erols.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Proffit Walker, 95, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of Nelson County, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in Port Charlotte, Fla. Born April 30, 1907, in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late John Proffitt and Verdie Tyree Proffitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cager Allen Walker, on Nov. 24, 1985. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy W. Connor and Shelly, of Schuyler; and her grandson, Second Lieutenant Christopher A, Connor of Fort Benning, Ga. A funeral service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at Saint Marys Catholic Church in Lovingston with Father Daniel Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in Lovingston. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial take the form of donations to the building fund of Saint Marys Catholic Church, Lovingston, Va. 22949.
