Obituary: James Edward Wallace, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, January 29, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, --------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Edward "Buck" Wallace, 92, of North Garden, departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home. He was born April 3, 1910, in Afton, (Nelson County), to the late John Henry and Mattie Harrison Wallace. He joined Union Baptist Church, Avon, at an early age. He was a carpenter. Gardening and fishing gave him much enjoyment. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, William A. Wallace, John A. Wallace, and David H. Wallace; and four sisters, Annie W. Durrette, Virginia W. Booker, Margaret L. Wallace and Phyllis W. Cowan. He is survived by one brother, Henry Wallace and his wife, Sylvia of Afton; two sisters, Golden Wallace Cowan of North Garden, and Mary Wilson Wallace Thompson of Afton; one sister-in-law, Daisy Wallace of Afton; two devoted nieces, Lillie Mae Montague of North Garden, and Ruth Cowan of Charlottesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of J. F. Bell Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe N. Chambers Jr., officiating.
