Obituary: Virginia Mae (Bryant) Ward, died May 3, 1974 Published: Unknown newspaper Contributor: Dennis Truslow ------------------------------------------------------------------ AFTON - Mrs. Virginia Mae Ward, 54, of Route 2, was pronounced dead on arrival last night at Waynesboro Community Hospital. According to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke the cause of death was "hemorrhage and shock from a laceration in the left lower leg". Mrs. Ward was believed to have been mowing her lawn when an object thrown from the lawnmower struck her, cutting her leg. Born in Afton on April 19, 1920, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Daisy Alice Tisdale Bryant. She was a member of Rhodes United Methodist Church of Avon. She is survived by her husband, Riley Willard Ward; a daughter, Mrs. David (Maude) Marshall of Charlottesville; a son, Bland H. Ward of Dallas Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Everett Ward of Waynesboro and Mrs. Viola B. Pannell of Lyndhurst; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and four brothers. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Rhodes United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Amos Rideout. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Willis, Wallace Snead, Pete Farrar, Carl Mitchell, Dale Ward, David Ward, Johnnie Clarke and Tommy Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be women of the church.
