Obituary: Joyce Ann (Gowen) Wooten, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, January 29, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow, --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joyce Ann Wooten, 58, of James River Road, Shipman, (Nelson County), died peacefully Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at her residence. Born March 23, 1944, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry B. Gowen and Lena Stienson Gowen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, John and Willard Scruggs. Joyce was a member of Shipman Baptist Church, a former employee of Lovingston Drug Store and until her illness was an employee of the former Peoples Bank of Nelson and most recently of the BB & T Bank in Lovingston. She is survived by her husband, Joseph G. "Joe" Wooten; two daughters, Linda W. DeBord and her husband, James, of Hardy, and Denice W. White of Shipman; two sons, Timothy Garland Wooten and his wife, Lisa, and Joseph Michael Wooten and his wife, Angie, all of Lovingston; one sister, Pauline S. Simpson and her husband, Jim of Shipman; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Shipman Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Massie, Dr. Michael Fitzgerald, and the Rev. John Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Davis Cemetery in Shipman. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to Shipman Baptist Church, 746 Craigtown Rd., Shipman, Va. 22971.
