CONTRIBUTOR: Lynn Vanderherchen -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD! AMEN. I FRANCIS CAMPBELL in the County of Nelson. Being weak in body but sound in mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) principally and first. I recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it, and my body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner, at the discretion of my Executors here and after named and first, I request that all my just debts shall be paid; and as touching the residue of my worldly estate as God hath blest me with. I do leave in the manner and form following ______: I leave and bequeath to my beloved wife Is(a)bell Campbell the third of my Estate during her natural life at the discretion of my Executors. The residue of my estate to be equally divided between my two sons and two daughters viz. Francis Campbell; Polley Gregory, Joel Campbell, and Rachel Gregory, share and share alike, only I give and bequeath to my son Joel Campbell my house existing nary all which is to them and their heirs forever; - and further it is my will and desire that the line made by myself and John Masters (between him and myself) to stand forever. And lastly I do appoint my sons Francis and Joel my sole Executors of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking and disannulling all former wills by me made and declare this my last will and testament. Coffey At a Court held for Nelson County, the 27th day of October 1823: this instrument of writing, purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Francis Campbell dec'd was produced into Court and proven by the oaths of Benjamin Hatter and John Coffey to subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Test. Spotswood Garland (Clerk) Know all men by these presents that we, Joel Campbell, Francis Campbell and Jesse S. Hatter, are held and firmly bound unto Nelson Anderson, Ro. J. Kincaid, Michael Woods, and Samuel Loving, gentlemen, Justices of the Court of Nelson County now sitting, in the sum of two hundred dollars, to the payment whereof, well and truly to be made to the said justices and their successors, we bind ourselves and each of us and each of our heirs executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by the presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 24th day of November, in the year of our Lord 1823 and in the Commonwealth the 48th. The condition of the above obligation is that if the said Joel Campbell executor of the Last Will and Testament of Francis Campbell deceased, do make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular, the goods, chattels, and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of him the said Joel Campbell or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him, and the same so made, do exhibit to the County Court of Nelson, at such time as he shall be thereto required by the said Court and the same goods, chattels, and credits, do well and truly administer, according to law and make a just and true account of his acting and doings therein, when there unto required by the said Court and further, do well and truly pay and deliver all the legacies contained and specified in the said Will, as far as the said goods, chattels, and credits will extend, according to the value thereof and as the law shall charge him; Then this obligation to be void, or else to remain in full force.
