I, John Dodd, of the County of Amherst being in perfect mind and memory at this time, thanks be unto Almighty God, for the sense and calling to mind that it is appointed unto all mankind to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.- I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God, that gave it, and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executor, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection that is I should receive the same by the mighty power of God.- And first I bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Martha Dodd a sufficient maintenance out of my estate both real and personal and provided by my heirs. Also, I bequeath unto my son Josias Dodd one dollar Virginia currency to be raised out of my estate. Also, I bequeath unto my daughter Sarrah Lee one dollar Virginia currency. Also, I bequeath unto Joseph Dodd one dollar Virginia currency. Also, I bequeath unto my daughters Elizabeth Dodd and Mary Dodd fifty acres of land to be laid off and divided from the tract where on I now live, at the lower end and is to contain the dwelling house wherein I now live freely to by them to be possessed as long as they may live single or live and they are not to rent or sell the said land or premises in my will, and in case they either marry or die, the said land or premises are to return to my son Will Dodd, freely by him to be possessed. Also, I bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth one feather bed and one cow and calf. Also, unto my daughter Mary one feather bed, one cow and calf. Also at my wife's or my decease, I will that my daughter Mary shall have the bed whereon we lie. Also, one mare named Doll; and all the rest of my household furniture to be equally divided between my daughter Mary and son William; Also, I bequeath unto my daughter Phebee Witt one dollar Virginia currency. Also, I bequeath to my daughter Nancy Lee one dollar Virginia Currency. Also, I bequeath unto my son William Dodd one hundred acres of land freely by him to possess with its premises it being the end where he now lives. Also, I desire all my just debts to be paid. I appoint William Dodd my Executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and three.
