Will of John Jacobs - Nelson County Will Book "A,"pp. 175-176: To whom it may concern be it hereby known that I John Jacobs, Senr of the County of Nelson & State of Virginia being advanced in age and in low state of health, but sound in mind and memory do make a constitute and declare the following to be my last will and testament hereby Revoking all Wills by me (-)-First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah Jacobs during her natural life Six Negroes-to wit- Pegg (Hamelt, Willis, Amy,) young Charles and George also half(-)at my decease, and fifty bushels of corn(-), also one half of my household & kitchen furniture I also give and bequeath to my said wife Sarah one half of the Stock Horses Cattle Sheep and Hogs that may belong to me on the (House & Plantation) at my decease being the place whereon I (reside), Containing Two hundred and sixty (7) acres I give and bequeath to my said wife during her life and after her decease I give & bequeath of the said Tract of Land and appertenances to my son David Jacobs and his heirs forever-I give and bequeath to my son William B. Jacobs all my tract of land on Cub Creek - containing four hundred acres to him and his heirs forever - But I do hereby will and direct that my son David Jacobs shall retain and keep possession of and cultivate the part of said tract that he has now in posession also the lower plantation whereon my son William has resided for some years - both of which (he) shall give up and relinquish to my Son William (and?) after the death of my beloved wife - I will and bequeath to my son John Jacobs all my Lands lying in the State of Kentucky on his giving up one third of the sme for locations &c &c. I will and bequeath to my son Peter C. Jacobs my Tract of land lying on the East side of Tye River, that I purchased of Rich Taliaferro containg three hundred and twenty seven to him and his heirs forever - I give and bequeath to my son William B. Jacobs on my decease three Negroes to wit (Nan, Jason-) I give and bequeath to my son David Jacobs (after my decease) three Negroes To Wit, Poll and her son(Patrick) & Jesse - I give and bequeath to my son John Jacobs three Negroes to Wit, Jack and Reuben also young jack a son of Honors- I give and bequeath to my son Peter C. Jacobs after my decease three Slaves to Wit, Henry, Anselm, and George - but he is not to have George until after my Wifes decease - also my Still I give to my son Peter - I will and bequeath to my Daughter Betsy Clarkson, Two Negroes To Wit Venus and Celia &c. And as it is my desire to assist my Daughter Susanah Hill and her children for that purpose it is my desire and request that my two Sons William and Peter do take into their possession Five Negroes, to Wit, (n-), James, (-), Rachel and Mary and one Bed with sufficient furniture which property I will and bequeath to the said William and Peter in Trust that they shall give unto the said Susanah Hill and her Heirs of Her Body all the profits and benifits arising from the labour of the said Slaves in Trust, which is to be managed and laid out altogether by their directin and after the death of my Daughter Susanah Hill I will and direct that the above mentioned five Slaves and their increase shall be equally divided among her children. All the other property not mentioned that I may own at my decease and not herein given I will and direct shall be divided equally between my four sons, William, David, Jaoh and Peter. But I give and bequeath to my Daughter Betsy Clarkson after the death of my wife the sum of Three Hundred Dollars to be paid from my Estate. And I do hereby constitue and appointed my two sons William and Peter Jacobs my Executors of this my last will and Testament.
