Bond SOURCE: Nelson County Will Book C, Page 327 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray -------------------------------------------------------- Know all men by these presents that we Joseph Mays Jr. and Amos Gandy are held and firmly bound unto John Tyler, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to which payment well and truly to be made to the said John Tyler, or his successor, we bind ourselves and each of us, and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Witness our hands and seals this 23rd day of January 1826. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Joseph Mays Jr. hath obtained a license to keep an Ordinary at his house in the County of Nelson; if therefore the said Joseph Mays Jr. doth constantly find and provide in his said Ordinary good, wholesome and cleanly lodging and diet for travellers, and stabbleage, fodder, and provender or pasturing and provender as the season shall require for their horses until the next May term for the County Court of Nelson and shall not suffer or permit any unlawful gaming in his house, nor suffer any person or persons to tipple and drink more than is necessary then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force.
