Will: Henry Wood, 1885 Source: Nelson County, VA, Wills (Book N, Page 264) Contributor: Rosemary Campbell Bell ------------------------------------------------------------------ I, Henry Wood of feeble health but of Sound and disposing mind do make and declare this my last will and testament. To my wife during her widowhood I give my home track of land containing sixty four acres more or less. To my son James I give one half of the land known as the Thompson land that portion given him is that which joins the land of Mr. Bettie Massie. It is my will that my son James pay to my son Thornton two hundred and fifty dollars for his interest in said land. To my son Simon I give the other half of the Thompson land and it is my will that he pay to my son Thornton two hundred dollars for his interest in said land. To my son Simon I give the track of land known as the White Oak Flat containing twenty one acres. It is my will my son Simon pay to Jinann Hudson one hundred and fifty dollars out of said track of land. To my wife I give my buggy and choice horse, also one choice milk cow. To my son James I give second choice horse. To my son Simon I give third choice horse. To my son Thornton I give fourth choice horse. It is my will that the remainder of my personal property be equally divided by valuation with my wife, my sons James, Simon and Thornton. It is my wish and desire that my property is not placed in the hands of anyone except my heirs. Witness my hand and signed this the 24th day of December 1884. Henry Wood Witnesses F. C. Maloney B. H. Massie At a County Court held for Nelson County on the 26th day of January 1885 - The last will & testament of Henry Wood late of this County, dec'd was this day fully proven by the oaths of F. C. Maloney & B. H. Massie the subsidiary witnesses thereto. Whereupon the same is ordered to be received as the true last will & testament of the said Henry Wood dec'd and the testator not having named an executor in said Will. Whereupon Cornelia E. Wood widow of said Henry Wood dec'd appeared in Court and relinquishes her right to the administration of the said decedent's estate in favor of Jas. S. Wood, & on the motion of the said Jas. S. Wood, who made oath as the law directs, & entered into a bond in the penalty of one thousand dollars, conditioned according to law, & containing a waiver of the Homestead Exemption. With Thornton A. Wood & Simon Wood his securities therein who justified on oath as to this sufficiency & which said bond was acknowledged by the obligors therein, is ordered to be ////// - certificate is granted the said James S. Wood for obtaining letters of administration on the est. of the said Henry Wood dec'd with his said will annexed in due form. Teste Wm.
