John Maddison, Land Patent, paraphrased, 1653/4 - New Kent Co. VA Land patent of 600 acres to John Maddison on the North Side of the Mattiponi River (on the River) on 4 Jan. 1653/54 Patent Book 3, page 217 The orginal patent shows that the patent is based up some activity in James City on 12 March 1651. It has three assignments on the document showing that the land was assigned by John Maddison and his wife, Mary Maddison, to Thomas Jones on 24 Feb. 1659/60, from Thomas Jones to William (Hurt probably) on 10 Mary 1660, and from William Hurt and and his wife, Margaret Hurt to William Nichalls (sic) on 3 February 1682/83.
