CITY OF NEWPORT NEWS, VA - CEMETERIES – Gambol Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Gambol graveyard: 1937 Jan. 8 Research made by Dorothy Diffenderfer Cemetery Location: 300 yards southeast of the site of “Gambol House”, which is .5 mile south on Route #60, from Waters Creek Bridge, Warwick County, Virginia, .2 mile west through Museum Gates. City of Newport News, Virginia DATE: 1852, date of oldest grave (marker). OWNERS: Mariners’ Museum, 1930 Mrs. Henrietta Copeland Mrs. Anna Ham 1852 John Gambol DESCRIPTION: There are five tombstones in this little family burying ground. The Mariners’ Museum has built a brick wall about four feet high around the graves for protection. The graveyard is situated on the point of a ridge on the east bank of the creek and is overgrown with underbrush.
