City of Newport News, Virginia DATE: 1839 date of oldest grave (marker). OWNERS: Lebanon Church. DESCRIPTION: The Lebanon graveyard lies around the church. A few trees are standing. There are a large number of more recent markers; but there are several old family plots enclosed by iron fences. There is one surrounded by a brick wall. The tombstones are gone in these old lots. This graveyard is kept in fair condition. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions were copied from the tombstones: E. G.
