CITY OF NEWPORT NEWS, VA - CEMETERIES – Young’s Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Young’s graveyard: 1937 July 12 Research made by Dorothy Diffenderfer Cemetery Location: 1.2 miles north of Menchville, Virginia, on Route #102, thence 1 mile west on Young’s private road. City of Newport News, Virginia DATE: 1873, date of oldest grave (marker). OWNERS: Young family, original and present. (1937) DESCRIPTION: The Young’s family graveyard is a beautifully kept spot, situated on a hill among ancient cedars and lovely dogwood and red-bud trees. It is surrounded by an iron fence, which has large clumps of narcissi growing at the base. There is a bed of tulips. Buttercups grow everywhere. There is a large bush of spires, also three boxwoods. There are five monuments in the cemetery. Two of the graves are marked with boxwood. Three are covered with ivy. This is a lovely spot.
