BARCLAY Funeral services for John Thomas Barclay, 52, prominent local jeweler, of Newport News, who died Friday afternoon at a Newport News hospital, were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the old Barclay residence, in Warwick County. The Rev. Clifford Ramsey, pastor of the Hilton Village Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. Paul K. Buckles, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, conducted the services. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Surviving are his widow; five* daughters, Mrs. James Denton, Mrs. Ward Howard, Mrs. Carlton Louise Barclay [sic; Mrs. Linwood Carlton Batkins], all of Hilton Village; three sisters, Mrs. P.A. Alejos, of Warwick County; Mrs. J.H. Hawkins, of Vinton, and Miss Sadie Barclay of Barclay on the James, and three brothers, C.W. Barclay, of Tampa, Fla.; George C. Barclay, of this city, and Robert McI. Barclay of Hilton Village. While the text gives five daughters, it names only three, omitting Mary Leila (BARCLAY; Mrs. Richard M.) LAGATELLA. The 1940 Census shows only four.
