Duke, of Newport News, and niece of Mrs. J.W. Holland of Suffolk. Besides her parents, Miss Duke is survived by two brothers, R.T. Duke, Jr. and Fred Duke. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence in Newport News by Rev. M.F. Allen. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** CHRISTIANE MABRY DUKE Mrs. J.W. Holland received a telephone message last night from Newport News, telling of the death of her niece, Miss Christian Duke, which occurred at 9:15 o’clock at Riverside Hospital. Miss Duek, sixteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Duke, developed spinal meningitis one week ago. She has frequently visited Mr. and Mrs. Holland in this city, and has a number of friends, who will regret to hear of her untimely death. ****************************************************************************** CHRISTIANE MABRY DUKE Suffolk, May 17 - Funeral services for Miss Christine Duke, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Duke, of Newport News, who died Wednesday night at Riverside Hospital, wer held this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by the Rev. M.F. Allen, pastor of Newport News Christian Church, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duke. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Baker, Causey Luke, Robert Baker, S.H. Babb Jr., Walter Riley and Gilbert Skinner. Flower girls were Katherine Holland, Opal Chappel, Katherine Luke, Evelyn Rowe, Virginia Mason, Louise Holland, Mary Gwaltney, Louise Baker, Hilda Luke, Frances Monfalcone, Ethel Smith, Ruby Nettles, Leatha Cole, Anne Small, Pauline Jarrett, Myrtle and Margaret Biggs. Miss Duke is survived by her parents and two brothers, Richard Thomas Duke, Jr. and Charles Frederick Duke. She was a granddaughter of Charles E. Duke of Nansemond County, and a niece of Mrs. J.W. Holland and Mrs. E.C. Luke, of Suffolk. She was student in the John W. Daniels School, of Newport News, and a member of the Newport News Christian Church and of several young people’s organizations. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Holland and Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Luke, of Suffolk attended the services. ****************************************************************************** CHRISTIANE MABRY DUKE Miss Christian Duke, sixteen-year-old daughter of Mr. R. Thomas and Mrs. Susie Hueter Duke, of Newport News, Va., departed this life May 15th. Her last illness was brief, and her death came as a shock to all who knew her. Christine was a faithful member of the Newport News Christian Church and Sunday School, and active in the work of other young people’s organizations of the Church. She will be long remembered as a sweet and lovable Christian girl. She is survived by her parents, two small brothers, a grandmother and grandfather. Funeral services were conducted from the home by the writer, assisted by the Rev. J.B. Hill, pastor of Orcutt Avenue Baptist, May 17, 1929. May the God whom she loved comfort the bereaved. H.F.
