CHARLES ELISHA DUKE, JR. 

  SUFFOLK - Jan. 15 - News was received here today of the death of Charles 
E. Duke, Jr., 37, formerly of Suffolk and son of Charles E. Duke Sr. of 
Nansemond.  Besides his father, Mr. Duke is survived by his wife, who was 
Miss Wortham; one daughter Anna Francis Duke; three brothers, C.E. Duke of 
Portsmouth; L.J. Duke of Newport News, and R.G. Duke, of Nansemond County; 
two sisters, Mrs. E.C. Luke of Suffolk, and Mrs. W.R. Vaughan of the county; 
a half-brother Edward Duke, and two half-sisters, Misses Sadie and Goldie 
Duke, of the county.

  Funeral services will be held at the residence, 1048 Twenty-seventh Street, 
Newport News, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the Rev. M.F. Allen, and 
the body will be brought to Suffolk for burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

  Active pallbearers will be J.W. Holland, E.C. Luke, W.A. Duncan, W.I. 
Vaughn and G.G. Wortham; honorary, C.H. Miller, W.W. Wallace, Dr. W.S. 
Snead, R.A. Davis, R.L. Baker, G.L. Mumford, W.F. Vaughn, V. Sebrell, Neal 
DeLoathche, C.L. Lowderbach, B.T. Hargraves, H.I. Birdsall, H.S. Spiers, 
F.W. Rountree, J.V. Thornton, J.G. Wood, J.H. Hueter, and C.L. Parrish. 


Charles Elisha DUKE, Jr., of Newport News, butcher, 
Nansemond Co. native, d. 15 Jan 1929, at home, Newport News, 
interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Block I, Lot 20*), Suffolk, 
"The Suffolk (VA) News-Herald"
