Born in Neck-o-land Farm in James City County, Va., he was the son of late Nettie B. and John Lucas Garrett. Mr. Garrett retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a foreman in 043 Department in 1972 after 44-years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He was a member of Warwick Masonic Lodge #336 A.F. & A.M. and the McMahon Masonic Lodge #303 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred F. Garrett, who died in December of 1991, and by his baby daughter, Carolyn Ann, who was born in 1932 and lived two days. Survivors include two brothers, Taylor Benton Garrett of Newport News and Robert Lee Garrett of Hampton; many nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home and at other times at 21 Huguenot Road. A funeral service with Masonic rites will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 1996, in Peninsula Funeral Home by Dr. J. Walter Martin and the Rev. Thurman Hayes, Jr. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
