HULL Pioneer Optometrist Succumbs to Sudden Heart Attack in His Office William E. Hull, 75, pioneer Newport News resident and optometrist well known to the citizens of Isle of Wight and Surry Counties died suddenly at 11:15 Saturday morning from a heart attack while standing in his office at 1:30 Twenty-six Street. Funeral services were held at 4 Monday afternoon at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Floyd W. Putney, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Winfrey Davis of New Canton. The body was taken to Trenton, N.J., where interment and burial services were held. Active pallbearers were W.M. Parker, Joel Jenkins, R.W. Powell, Charles Fitch, L.M. Forbes, C.H. Barnes, Thomas Smith, and Luther Spencer. Honorary pallbearers included First Baptist deacons, member of the Masonic order and friends of the family. Death came as a distinct shock to a legion of friends who knew him through his church, fraternal and professional connections. He had just returned from the post office and entered his office when he toppled over on the floor. A physician was summoned hurriedly, but the optometrist was dead before his arrival. Dr. G. Colbert Tyler, city coroner who was called a few minutes later, said death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Hull settled in Newport News 36 years ago, only a few years after its incorporation, and went into business. The business grew with the city and the firm name of Hull and Hull became widely known in this section. He retired from active participation in the profession 10 years ago, but the business was continued by his daughter, Dr. Alma H. Wilcox. He lived over the office on Twenty-sixth street. Mr. Hull was active in the First Baptist Church, in which he as a deacon at the time of his death. He also participated in various local charities, particularly those sponsored by the church. He was a member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics in Trenton, N.J., the Masonic Blue Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Hampton; the Hampton Commanders and Khedive Temple in Norfolk. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louisa M. Hull; a daughter, Dr. Wilcox, grandson, Elwood Wilcox; and two sisters in Trenton, Miss Lizzell Hull and Mrs. Laura Mathews. William E.
