She was born in South Norfolk on April 25, 1924 to the late Albert Monroe and Lillian Downing Brickhouse, and was a lifelong resident of Chesapeake. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Ennis Hudgins Sr. and Gerald Worth Ansell; granddaughter, Carrie G. Hudgins; two brothers, George Brickhouse and Maury Brickhouse and her beloved sister, Marjorie Brickhouse; and longtime friend, Rosalie S. Lee. She was employed with Armour's Meat Packing Company for many years, but her most important goal in life was taking care of her children. She is survived by her seven children, daughters, Janie H. White (Wayne), Patricia A. Jordal (Bill) both of Chesapeake; sons Arthur E. Hudgins (Linda) of High Point, N.C., Elton L. Hudgins (June) of Chesapeake, James A. Hudgins (Carolyn) of Chesapeake, Glenn E. Hudgins (Amy) of Chesapeake, and Stanley W. Ansell (Melissa) of Norfolk; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. She was a member of Rosemont Christian Church, where her family has served for six generations. "Grandma" loved to take on her children and grandchildren in a good game of dummy-rummy, but her greatest joy in life, even at 86 years young, was going to our annual camping trip at Lake Gaston and spending time with her beloved family. A graveside service will be held Nov. 16 in Riverside Memorial Park at 2 p.m. with son Arthur E. Hudgins of High Point, N.C., and grandson Edward L. Hudgins of Eau Claire, Wis., officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, Nov. 15, at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Following the service, the family will receive friends and guests at her son's home at 442 Fairfield Drive, Chesapeake. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother who cherished her family and friends, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
