Virgnian Pilot

VIRGINIA JACOBS GILBERT Age 71, of 26 A Elizabeth Road, Hampton, died at a 
Newport News hospital Saturday, December 13, 1952 at 10:40 pm after an illness 
of three months. She had been in failing health for a number
of years. A native of Texarkana, Texas, she came to Norfolk to reside as a 
girl and lived here
until 25 years ago. She had lived in Hampton-Newport News area since that 
time. She had resided at her present address for the past two and one half 
years. She was the daughter of RICHARD THOMAS and Mrs. IDA VIRGINIA STEVENS 
JACOBS and widow of OSCAR L. GILBERT and was a member of the First Baptist 
Church, Newport News. She is survived by a son, BURNHAM S. GILBERT, with whom 
she made her home; 2 sisters, Mrs. BESSIE J.RUTTER of Warwick City and Mrs. 
W.W. SCOTT JR of Hampton; 2 nieces, Mrs. BERT BROWN and Mrs. MILTON AARDEMA of 
Hampton; 3 nephews W.W. SCOTT III of Hampton, C.W. RUTTER JR of Warwick City 
and CARROLL B. FOSTER JR of Seattle,Washington; 3 great nieces and 3 great 
nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox
Funeral Home Tuesday, December 16, 1952 at 3:00 pm by the Rev R. STUART 
GRIZZARD,
pastor of the First Baptist Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery. Pallbearers:
JAMES WINN, FRANK TIERNEY, JOHN GUNTER, WILSON HAYES, EARL SHERMAN,
ROBERT SHERMAN, FRANK PEAKE and JAMES E. MOORE.
