HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Here Lyeth the Body of Dorthy Farrell Who deceased the 18th of January 1673 This is the oldest tombstone in the churchyard. Here lies the body of John Taylor Merchant in Norfolk Born in the Parrish of Fintree in the County of Stirling in Scotland in March Anno 1694 and died on the 26th day of October 1744 in the 51st year of his age Fide Et Fiducia In memory of Abigail Pollard Consort of Benjamin Pollard Merchant of the Borough Who departed This Life July 7th, 1795 Pattern of goodness and unblemished life, Here lies the tenderest mother, fondest wife Whose very manners ___ pride of art With true simplicity engaged each heart Whose lovely person and whose sprightly mind Each female grace with every virtue joined. Here lies the Body of Eyra Hayward a native of Boston Who departed this life the 26th of November, 1797 Let frantic mirth be pensive here, Here let youth waste its transient bloom Here let vain beauty drop a tear For Eyra here moulders in the Tomb. Job Palmer A Native of Falmouth, Mass. Departed This Life January 1st, 1820 Forgive blest shade the tributary tear, That mourns thy exit from a world like this, Forgive the wish that would have kept thee here, And stayed thy progress to a seat of bliss. James Maxwell Who was Born in Northumberland, England But Became a Resident of this Borough in the year 1767, and afterwards served the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Revolutionary War. A Superintendent of Her Navy Yard, Commissioner of Her Navy and Captain of an Armed Ship in Her service. With equal Honor To Himself and Advantage to the State. And Greatly Respected For His Talents and Virtues. Died On The 4th Day of October A.D. 1795 in the 62nd year of His age.
