A native of Princess Anne County, he was a son of John Butler and Mrs. Lydia Ackiss and the husband of Mrs. Annie Ackiss. He was a 44-year retired employe of Naval Supply Center, a member of Blooming Light Masonic Lodge 132, and an Army veteran of World War I. Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, John Butler Ackiss and Henry A. Ackiss, and three daughters, Miss Rosa Ackiss, Mrs. Lydia McGlone, and Mrs. Annie Mae Johnson, all of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Mary Satterwhite of New York; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church by the Rev. John C. Riddick. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Riddick Funeral Service has charge.
