Adams, M.D., 97, formerly of the 1200 block of Westover Ave., died Feb. 26, 1996. Mr. Adams was born Feb. 2, 1899, in Norfolk, and was the son of Walter Jones Adams, a successful Norfolk physician, and Pauline Colclough Adams, a practicing attorney and a leader in the Woman's Suffragist Movement. The youngest member of the 1915 Maury High School graduating class, he had no other thought but to study medicine. He entered the University of Virginia, graduating from medical school in 1922. While at UVA he was an active member of the Beta Theta Phi and Phi Rho Sigma. Following graduation he became a resident of Sara Leigh Clinic and then entered into private practice of Internal Medicine. Dr. Adams was on the staffs of Leigh Memorial, Norfolk General, and DePaul Hospitals. He served as president of the Leigh Memorial Medical Staff in 1949. He was past president of the Virginia Diabetes Association, the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association, Medical Society of Virginia, Section of American College of Physicians, Seaboard Medical Association, and Virginia Society of Internal Medicine. He was the former vestryman of Christ and St. Lukes Episcopal Church. His World War II service was from 1940 to 1945 at the Norfolk Naval Hospital and in California and Okinawa. He retired from the Navy as captain in the Naval Reserve and resumed his private medical practice. Dr. Adams was a member of the American Legion Post 35, and George W. Wright Masonic Lodge (NU) 346. Dr. Adams was the widower of the former Charlotte Wales, known as ''Tilley.'' He is survived by a daughter Charlotte Harrell; and a son, Walter Paul Adams Jr.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
