Virginian Pilot March 3, 1996

VIRGINIA BEACH - Mable Pippin Adams, 91, a resident of Norfolk for more than 40 
years, and had been living at Westminster-Canterbury of Virginia Beach for more 
than 15 years, died Wednesday Feb. 28, 1996, in the health care center.
She was born in Washington, N.C., and was the widow of J. Royden Adams. She was 
a former teacher and school principal, and at her retirement in 1972 was on the 
Educational Administration Staff of the Norfolk School System. Mrs. Adams was a 
long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. She attended Peace 
College in Raleigh, N.C., the University of Virginia, and graduated from James 
Madison University.
Survivors include a sister, Margaret P. Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, 
Barbee M. Gyourko of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Pippin of 
Rockingham, N.C., and Margaret Pippin of Akron Ohio; two nephews, Jefferson C. 
Davis Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and James A. Pippin Jr. of Columbus, Ga.; a niece, 
Patricia Minnich of El Cajon, Calif.; three step-grandchildren, Marsha G. 
Cichanski of Peachtree City, Ga., Joseph E. Gyourko III of Swarthmore, Pa., and 
Andrew Royden Gyourko of Springfield, Va.; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel in 
Westminster-Canterbury of Virginia Beach. Burial was on Saturday in Elmwood 
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Fellowship 
Fund of Westminster-Canterbury of Virginia Beach, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia 
Beach, 23455. Cox Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
