A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Addington was a graduate of Maury High School, where the Helen Murphy Addington Scholarship Fund was established in her honor. She was a member of the Tidewater Women's Golf Association and won the groups's championship in 1943. She was also a member and club champion of Princess Anne Country Club and the Norfolk Golf Club. She was a member of the charity circle of the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters and Princess Anne Garden Club. She had worked as a nurse's aide at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital. During World War II, she was a member of the Norfolk Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was the widow of Joseph Clark Addington, founder of Addington Beaman Lumber Co. Inc. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Addington Twohy of Norfolk and Helen Addington Passano of Baltimore; two sons, Joseph C. Addington, Jr., of Norfolk and Dr. William F. Addington of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great granchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christadelphian Chapel, Norfolk. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will be at the residence. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road, is handling arrangements.
