The Virginian-Pilot, Monday, September 11, 1878
NORFOLK - Mrs. Mattie Africa of 1205 Rubgy St. died Saturday in a Virginia beach 
hospital. She was a native of Fort Mazula, Mont., and the widow of Primitivo 
Africa Sr.

She was a retired owner of a food store she operated for 40 years and a member 
of St. Marks Baptist Church and the Neighborhood Garden Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Fleming of Virginia Beach; a son, 
Primitivo Africa Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Cole and Mrs. Emily Pajarillo 
of Norfolk; a brother, Samuel Harris of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Graves Funeral Chapel. Burial will 
be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will assemble at her home.
