Vernon Ahern, vice president of the Federal Mortgage Company, who died in Roanoke Thursday night, will be buried here this afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o’clock at H. D. Oliver’s funeral apartments, 610-12 East Freemason street. The body arrived last night. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Ahern went to Roanoke Saturday on a business trip, accompanied by Paul T. Collins, president of the company. Thursday morning, a wire to Mrs. Ahern from Mr. Collins stated that her husband had suffered a heart attack, but a telephone message later in the day stated his condition was serious and that he would return within a short time. A wire that night announced his death. For nearly 50 years, Mr. Ahern was connected with the advertising department of the Virginian-Pilot, leaving his position about four years ago to become associated with Mr. Collins. He was a native of New York State but had lived here practically all of his life. His residence was at 355 Olney road. Besides his widow, Mr. Ahern is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Moss W. Armistead, of Norfolk, and a brother and three sisters, of New York.
