Mr. Albano was born in Norfolk Dec. 29, 1914. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School, studied at Lucca, Italy for a year and then graduated from Maury High School. After graduating high school, he went on to study at Ecole De Pont in France, before graduating from Georgetown University, Class of 1936. Mr. Albano founded Albano Cleaners Inc. in 1936, and was its chairman and CEO until 1984. During his many years in the business community, he served on many boards and organizations including, past president of the 21st Street Business Association, past president and charter member of the Ryan Club, charter member of the Norfolk Chapter of Civitan International, past president of the Lakewood Civic League and co-founder and past president of the Virginia Cruise Corporation. He was a past president of the Georgetown University Alumni Association, recipient of the Outstanding Catholic Community Award 1959 and founder and first president of the Friends of DePaul Charity Ball. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk and had served in the Coast Guard Reserves. He also had served as the Consul Ad Honorum for the Republic of Ecuador from 1954 to 1970. Survivors include his son, James A. Albano Jr., and his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Grace Anne Orsini; and son-in-law, Jack Bowen; as well as nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Albano and daughter, Lynn Marie Bowen. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. today.
