She was a retired legal secretary at the legal center of James F. Gay. She was married to Richard T. Alex, a retired government employee and had two sons, James F. Gay, a local attorney, and father Milton F. Gay, Jr., assistant to the Commissioner of Human Resources, Washington, D.C. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Norfolk, Va., where Bishop Eugene Brown is the pastor. Her church activities included membership as a deaconess, the Missionary Society, and the Women's Auxiliary. She was formerly an usher and a member of the choir. In addition to her two sons, other survivors include three grandchildren, Wilma Gay and Milton F. Gay, III of Washington, D.C. and James F. Gay, Jr. of Norfolk.
