Virginian-Pilot September 9, 1900
Mrs. Ella C. Alexander, relict of the late Dr. J. D. Alexander, of Wooster, O., 
departed this life at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital at 7:45 o’clock Friday 
night, in the 48th year of her age. The deceased had been a resident of Portsmouth 
for the past two years. The obsequies were solemnized from the funeral apartments 
of Mr. H. D. Oliver, No. 520 Freemason street, at 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon. 
The services were conducted by Rev. John H. Dickinson, assistant rector of Christ 
Episcopal Church. The remains were temporarily interred in Elmwood Cemetery. Later 
on they will be forwarded to Ohio.
