COURTNEY M. ALEXANDER DIES SUDDENLY Fraternal Woman Was Member of Bank St. Baptist Church The funeral of Mrs. Courtney Moore Alexander, daughter of the late Elias G., and Mrs. Victoria Moore of 839 Pulaski Street, who died suddenly Monday night, January 29, was held Thursday from the Bank Street Baptist Church with the Rev. G.W. Watkins, officiating. Solos were sung by Misses Bessie Gaines, Florence Shepherd, and Mrs. Annie Harper Davis. Pallbearers were Messrs. Thomas Stancil, Melvin Diggs, Reuben Archer, Dr. W.T. Lovette, John Foster, T.S. Bagnall, and James Watkins, of Portsmouth. After graduating from Virginia State College, Mrs. Alexander taught in the John Smythe School here for several years. Her husband, Mark Alexander, died five years ago. The deceased was a past grand officer of the United Order of Tents, a past officer of the United Order of St. Lukes, and a member of the Bank Street Baptist Church for over 30 years. Surviving Mrs. Alexander are her mother, Mrs. Victoria Moore, one sister, Mirs. Carrie Collette; and one nephew, Maurice Collette.
