The Virginian Pilot Saturday March 19, 1960 
Mrs. Annie Marie Diggs Alexander, 90, widow of Joseph L. Alexander died at 
her residence, 827 W. 42nd St., Friday at 11:12 a.m.
She is survived by three stepdaughters, Mrs. J.J. Coughlin of Bessemer, 
Ala.; Mrs. A.D. Strong and Mrs. William Setliff, both of Norfolk; three 
nieces, Mrs. M.F. Draper of Hampton, Miss Myra H. Diggs of Portsmouth and 
Mrs. William S. Ripley of Norfolk; two nephews, Glenn Hudgins Diggs of 
Silver Springs, Md. And Thomas D. Diggs of Hampton; eight grandchildren; 21 
great-grandchildren and a great great grandchild.
Mrs. Alexander was a native of Mathews County and had been a resident of 
Norfolk for 52 years. She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church, Mathews.
A funeral service will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Sunday at 3 
p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
