Norfolk Virginian September 23, 1893

At 5:30 o'clock yesterday evening Mr. J.B. Alexander died at his late residence 
on Reservoir Avenue, in the 73d year of his age. This is the second time this 
family has been sadly bereaved in the last four months, the first bereavement 
being the killing of his son at Lambert's Point by being caught between two cars 
and crushed to death. The deceased had been in feeble health for some time due 
to old age and general debility, but his fatal illness only confined him to his 
bed for one week prior to his demise. Mr. Alexander was a native of 
Pennsylvania, but came to Virginia in 1867, settling in Lynchburg, where he 
resided with his family until two years ago, when he removed to Norfolk. He was 
a gentleman of affable manners and sterling integrity and was greatly esteemed 
by all who knew him. He leaves a widow, one daughter and two grandchildren to 
mourn their loss. The funeral will be announced later.

Friday, at 5:30 o'clock p.m., JAMES B. ALEXANDER, aged 72 years.
The funeral will take place from above residence THIS (Sunday) MORNING at 9 
o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend.

The funeral of Mr. James B. Alexander, who died Friday night at his residence, 
on Reservoir Avenue, will take place this morning at 9 o'clock from the above 
residence, by the Rev. Mr. Meredith, of St. Peter's Church. Friends of the 
family are invited to attend. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
