Norfolk Landmark June 12, 1890 

Manuel Alphonso, a Portuguese, who has long resided in this city and for a number 
of years has acted in the capacity of interpreter for several of the European 
Consuls, being acquainted with a number of the languages, died yesterday morning 
at his residence in Brewer Street. He also kept a fruit stand at the corner of 
Water Street and Campbell's wharf.
