Hattie Sanderlin Alfriend, 94, of the 400 block of Dundaff St., died May 7, 
1993, in a local hospital. 

Mrs. Alfriend was a native of Currituck County, N.C., and came to Norfolk with 
her family in 1898. She was the widow of John Samuel Alfriend, who had been 
president and chairman of the board of Virginia National Bank, now Nations 
Bank. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Norfolk; 
Loving Circle of The King's Daughters; Town and Country Garden Club; Algonquin 
Garden Club; and the Garden Club of Norfolk. 

Survivors include two daughters, Anne A. Abbitt of Norfolk and Susan A. Bevan 
of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Elmwood Cemetery by 
the Rev. Ross Wright. The family will be at 923 W. Princess Anne Road. H.D. 
Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements. 

Memorial donations may be made to Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd or 
Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
