Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, May 2, 2007 
NORFOLK - Florence Clanton Allen, formerly of Barney Street, passed quietly and
peacefully into eternal rest April 28, 2007, in Sentara Norfolk General
Hospital. A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and
Helen Hendricks Clanton.

"Lil Florence" as she was affectionately known by friends and family retired
from Louise Eggleston Center in Norfolk after 20 years of service. As a faithful
member of St. John AME Church, she was active in many phases of church life
including the Stewardess Board No. 1, the Lay Organization, Brock-Hunter
Missionary Society, the Gourmet Club, Vacation Bible School, the Nanny C. Phelps
Women's Missionary Society, Les Cygnettes and the NAACP. She was a graduate of
Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1957.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughters, Renee Goffigan Benns
(Elton) and Cheryl Goffigan Williams (Gregory); sisters and brothers, George
Jones, Barbara Hendricks, Robert Hendricks, Helen Baucom, Ronald Hendricks,
Geneva Brown and Thelma Campbell. She will also be sorely missed by her 10
grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John AME Church, 518 E. Bute
St., with the Rev. John D. Burton officiating. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery . Viewing will be at Riddick Funeral Service Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.
The body will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Friday. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. and at other times at 6831
E. Tanners Creek Drive, the home of Gregory and Cheryl Goffigan Williams.
