Funeral services for Thurston Allen, Sr., were held Sunday, April 19 at the 
Rising Sun Baptist Church in Berkley with the Rev. Hilton Felton, pastor, 
officiating.

Mr. Allen died at his residence, 703 Walker avenue, April 16 after a long 
illness.  A native of Louisburg, NC., he moved to Norfolk 30 years ago.  He 
was the son of the late Jeff and Mrs Tempie Alston Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine Allen, one son, Thurston Allen 
Jr., of Ft. Monmouth, NJ;  one daughter, Mrs. Bettie Jordon of Philadelphia;  
three brothers Nalcus Allen of Louisburg NC;  Henry Allen of Richmond, VA., 
and Joe Allen of Kittrell, NC;  one sister, Mrs. Mamie Hawkins of Raleigh, 
NC;  seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Interment was in the Mt. Olive Cemetery with Fitchett’s Funeral Home in 
charge of arrangements.
