State School Teacher Dies In Newport News Mrs. Clara Little Alston, wife of James O. Alston of Newport News, died at a local hospital on Monday, March 21 at 7:17 p.m. She was the daughter of the late John and Mrs. Emily Little of Norfolk, Va. A graduate of Booker T. Washington high school, Norfolk, and Union University, she did graduate work in special education at West Va. Institute and received the M.A. degree from Hampton Institute. Mrs. Alston taught at the Virginia State School, Hampton, for 20 years. She was a member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, the Women's Auxiliary and a former president; the Hampton Chapter of Jack and Jills of America, Inc., and a leader of the senior Girl Scout troop of her church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Alston is survived by a daughter, Miss Glenda L. Alston; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Hopkins, Norfolk; and Mrs. Annie Hickman of Conway, S.C.; a foster sister, Mrs. Catherine Marks of Boston, Mass.; a brother, John Little of Norfolk; three nieces, Mrs. Barbara Carter of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Misses Charliese and Edna Hickman; a nephew, Carl Hickman of Conway; an aunt, Mrs. Catherine Artis of Norfolk, and a number of cousins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 25 at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Newport News at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lloyd Alexander officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk.
