A native of Norfolk, he was the son of Mildred Hall Alston and the late John W. Alston. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he worked as a marine equipment specialist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He attended Cedar Road Chapel and was a radio-controlled model sailboat enthusiast. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sharon E. Alston; a daughter, Jennifer E. Alston; two brothers, W. Calvin Alston and his wife Gloria and C. Wilbur Alston and his wife Martha, all of Chesapeake; and a niece, Patricia Condrey of Elizabeth City, N.C. A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, with Pastor Terry Reel officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk.
