Emily S. Alston died April 20, 1992, in her home.

Mrs. Alston was born in Norfolk. She was a former teacher at Booker T.
Washington High School and was chairman of its English department. She retired
from the school in 1969 as assistant principal for instruction. She had also
taught at Virginia State University and Norfolk State University. She was a
graduate of Virginia State University and received her master's degree in
personnel administration and guidance from New York University.

She was a member of First Baptist Church Bute Street, Iota Omega Chapter of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Moles Club, Links Inc., Colonial Maids Club and
Norfolk Medical Society Auxiliary.

She was the widow of Dr. George T. Alston.

She is survived by three nieces, including Viola A. Jones of Norfolk; and
several cousins.

The funeral will be at 1:30p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Bute Street.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family at 6:30 p.m.
Friday in Hale Funeral Home, where a service will be held by Links and Alpha
Kappa Alpha. Family and friends will assemble at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at 6319
Sedgefield Drive. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
