Alston, Businessman George Washington Alston, businessman and churchman, was buried today, December 1, following a funeral service at Mt. Olive Baptist church, where he was one of the oldest members and served as a senior deacon for 48 years. The Rev. H.T. Myers, pastor, officiated. Mr. Alston, operator for more than 31 years of Alston's Service Station at 1269 E. Princess Anne road, died November 27 enroute to the hospital. He was 71 years of age. A native of Warren county, N.C., and son of William K. and Mrs. Annie Alston, Mr. Alston had lived in Norfolk 60 years. He held a service plaque from Pure Oil Company for 25-years continuous service, superiority of station maintenance and faithfulness to the company. A nephew, John H. Alston Jr., was associated in the business with Mr. Alston. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Alston; one sister, Mrs. Emma Baldwin of Princess Anne county; one brother, John H. Alston Sr. of Norfolk; several nieces and nephews, include Mr. Alston Jr. Burial was in Calvary cemetery, with Riddick Funeral service in charge of arrangements.
