A native of Norfolk, he was a member of St. John's AME Church, Alpha and Omega Consistory 9, Campbell Lodge 67, Arabia Temple 12, the YMCA, Sons of Norfolk, and Lancasters. Survivors include three sons, the Rev. E. Deedom Alston of Louisville, Ky., Elbert Lee Alston of Rahway, N.J., and Lamar Alston of Norfolk; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Shrine service will be held tonight at 7 in St. John's Church, followed by 8 by an Alpha Omega Consistory service. A funeral service will be held in St. John's Church Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. A.R. Powell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Jones Funeral home in charge. The body will be in church at 11 a.m. Saturday.
