Alston, 56, 2422 Ludlow street, norfolk, died 10:05 pm. Nov. at her residence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 7 at Union Congregational Christian Church with Dr. W. L. Hamilton, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by the Revs. J. M. Copeland and T. C. Chappelle. A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Alston was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mrs. Hattie Turner Harrison. Mrs. Alston was an active church worker. She was a member of the Tents, the Eastern Star, the Ministers’ Wives Alliance, and many religious organizations. She attended Norfolk Mission College. Mrs. Alston is survived by her husband, the Rev. Robert J. Alston of Norfolk, Va. and New York City; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Lee, of Washington DC, Mrs. Ira Braswell and Mrs. Vernon Edwards, of Norfolk; six sons, Robert J. Alston Jr., of Washington DC, the Rev. James A. Alston and Stewart H. Alston, of Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA. Others are the Rev. Percey O. Alston of McIntosh, GA; Alexander M. Alston, of New York City, and Alvin L. Alston, of the U.S. Air Force at Sampson NY; three brothers, Sampson and Bernard Harrison, of New York City, and James Harrison of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Marshall and Mrs. Clyde McDaniel, of Norfolk, and 14 grandchildren. Interment was in Calvary cemetery with Fitchett’s funeral home in charge.
