Brown Alston, 60, of the 4600 block of Broad St., died May 19, 2003 at 3:18 p.m. She was a native of Newport News and attended Newport News public schools and graduated from Huntington High School. She was a member of the historical First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late Venice E. Brown and Elmo Brown of North Carolina. Doris worked for the U.S. Air Force in Burlington, Mass., and was executive housekeeper and inspector of housing for the Hanson Air Force Base. She was presented with numerous awards for a job well done for 10 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Victor S. Alston of the home; her son, Jason D. McNeil and daughter Lisa Y. Mckinney, all of Virginia Beach; her maternal sister, Frances Whitley; brothers, James Brown of Hampton, Harvey Brown of Newport News; her foster family, Sylvester Hobson, Joyce Whitehead, Lois Hobson and Vanesa Walker of Richmond; and three grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Bianca, Tevin and Tara. Doris will not only be missed by her loving relatives but also by her very special friends, Carolyn, Butch and Jackie, Al and Ruth. Doris had a deep and sincere love for her mother and father-in-law, Deacon Stewart and Doreatha Alston of First Baptist Church. The only name she would call them was Mama and Daddy. The funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Bute Street, with Dr. Robert G. Murray officiating. The body will be placed in the church at noon Friday. Viewing will be held today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery .
